1st Youth National Boxing Championship

The 1st Youth National Boxing Championship organized by the Boxing Federation of India (BFI) is being held from 16th-22nd Jan 2017 at Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium. To promote boxing amongst the youngsters, the BFI has for the first time introduced a format of Youth National Boxing Championship for boxers of age 17-18. While this gives a much needed boost to the morale of the boxers who are almost on the verge of taking the big decision of whether to go Pro or to choose some other profession. There are ten weight categories for both Woman and Man, shelling out a gold, a silver and two bronze medals for each category.

The atmosphere inside the stadium on the evening of 16th Jan was abuzz with energy  and excitement for both organizers and the participants. More than 400 boxers participated in this Championship  out of which almost 180 are female boxers. These boxers represent …… states and Union Territories.

The evening opened with a welcome speech followed by a cultural function comprising of a performance by exponents of Odhisi from the East, Kathak from South and Bharat Natyam from North India. It was followed by an inspirational speech by the President of BFI, Mr. Ajay Singh.
