March XX:The Indian Contingent for the Commonwealth Games 2018

The 2018 Commonwealth Games held in Gold Coast was the first major multi-sporting event that India had participated in since the BFI came into power in 2016. A lot depended on the outcome in boxing and needless to say that with a flurry of medals Indian pugilists showed they were heading in the right direction. India finished second behind England with a haul of 9 medals in boxing. Even though both the countries earned the same number of boxing medals it was India’s 3 boxing golds as compared to England’s 6 that put them in the 2nd position.

The highlight was of course Mary Kom (48kg) tasting a gold medal at the Commonwealth Games for the first time ever in her storied career. Other gold medals were brought in by Vikas Krishan (75kg) and Gaurav Solanki (52kg). While Amit Panghal (49kg), Manish Kaushik (60kg) and Satish Kumar (+91kg) bagged silver, Manoj Kumar (69kg), Naman Tanwar (91kg) and Mohamed Hussamuddin (56kg) took the bronze.
