Fulfilling Father’s Dream

PL Prasad started boxing in 2005 when he was just 10 years old. It was his father’s dream to see him as an established boxer and Prasad challenging all the adversities have started his journey to script his success story with a bang at the recently held at the Makran Cup in Iran. His father who used to be a boxer only to give up his dreams as he couldn’t continue with mounting financial problems and family expectations. A taxi driver by profession, while he surrendered his dream; he encouraged his son to follow his footsteps and chase his dream of becoming a boxer. While Prasad saw success as a young pugilist early; life wasn’t a cake walk for him either.

Financial constraints continued and Prasad was forced to leave Vishakhapatnam in 2007 to join Madras Engineering Group (MEG), Bangalore. In 2008, he joined Army Sports Institute, Pune and this is where his grooming started. He trained to become a fine boxer only again to be catapulted by fate as in 2012, he lost his Father who was his biggest strength. The same year, he won a bronze medal at Youth World C’ship and followed it up with a bronze at Youth Asian C’ship in 2013.

In 2015, when he was on the verge of making his senior international debut ill-fated injured on his right shoulder took him off the ring for close to two years. After days and month of recovery now PL Prasad has announced his return. In 2018 Senior National, he mounted a comeback by winning the gold medal and in his first international outing this year, the Andhra boy has won a silver medal. With a family to support and the desire to fulfil his father’s dream, the boxer is determined to leave a permanent imprint at the international scene.
