Lovlina, Manish Kaushik among virtually-conferred awardees on National Sports Day
In a first-ever virtually-arranged National Sports Awards ceremony on the 115th birth anniversary of Major Dhyan Chand, World Championships medallists Lovlina Borgohain and Manish Kaushik were bestowed upon the Arjuna Awards as the discipline of boxing received a total of 5 awards.
The prestigious Dronacharya award, which is given for Lifetime Achievement, was conferred on former Chief Coach of the Indian boxing team, Shiv Singh. The Dhyan Chand award was presented to two-time World Championships silver medallist Usha Nagisetty and 5-time national champion Lakha Singh for their immense contribution to the sport.
Taking all safety precautions due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the award winners connected to the Hon’ble President of India Ram Nath Kovind from nine different Sports Authority of India (SAI)-assigned centres on National Sports Day and were virtually presented the awards.
