That Indian boxing is on the upward rise was thoroughly validated in a sizzling performance by the Indian men’s and women’s pugilists at the Asian/Oceanian Qualification Event in Amman, Jordan. India recorded its highest number of quotas – 9 and that too from a single qualifier which clearly underlined how far Indian boxing has come.

MC Mary Kom (51kg), Simranjit Kaur (60kg), Lovlina Borgohain (69kg), Pooja Rani (75kg), Amit Panghal (52kg), Manish Kaushik (63kg), Vikas Krishan (69kg), Ashish Kumar (75kg) and Satish Kumar (+91kg) will all be vying to bring Olympic glory. Before this, India’s highest qualifying number for an Olympic Games was eight for the 2012 edition in London.
