Govind’s journey as a sportsperson started in 2009. He started playing football and soon, he lost interest and shifted his focus to boxing. Govind says that he was keen to pursue an individual sport which is why he chose boxing.

While it seemed everything was on track for Govind, he suffered a fracture in his left hand. In order to train and not miss playing, he lied to his parents. Later, in 2014, he shifted to Kashipur, where he trained for 3 years but by then he had a deadly sting of “depression” which had started to plague him. And in no time, severe depression gripped him and losing tournaments only added to the issue. While he was fighting bouts of depression off the ring, life was unforgiving inside the ring too, when he was not chosen for the State team consecutively for two years.

The opportunity to represent Nagaland came in 2018 Nationals; he grabbed it with both his hands. He not only was back in the ring; he won a bronze medal and got a call to the National Camp and the tour of Finland in 2019 was his first international outing. Son to a farmer, Govind aims to not look back and punch his way through all the challenges that life throws at him.
