Aiba Women World Boxing Championship held at New Delhi from 14th to 24th Nov. 2018
Records were set amidst an electrifying atmosphere in New Delhi as India’s women’s boxers grabbed an unprecedented haul of four medals from the AIBA Women’s World Boxing Championship 2018.
Mary Kom’s legendary status grew further as she claimed a staggering sixth gold medal to tie with Cuban legend Felix Savon as the joint most successful boxer in the history of the World Championships.
While Mary’s punches kept the crowd on tenterhooks, Sonia Chahal pocketed a silver 57kg and Simranjit Kaur (64kg) and Lovlina Borgohain (69kg) took the bronze.
The four-medal haul was a vast improvement from the solitary silver medal that India had won in the previous edition, showing the bubbly confidence and newfound belief in the Indian boxers with more tournament play and international exposure.
