Asian Games starting from August 15 – 3 September 2018
The second major multi-sporting event of 2018, the Asian Games presented the sternest test for Indian boxers after the sport showed a lot of promise at the Commonwealth Games. Amit Panghal’s breakthrough performance in 49kg ensured that India maintain their golden touch. Panghal upset the reigning Olympic champion Hasanboy Dusmatov in a thrilling final to finish on the top podium while the experienced Vikas Krishan added the 75kg bronze to help India finish 4th in boxing on the medal table. If anything, this was a huge validation that Indian boxing’s graph was on the rise.
