A new chapter of Indian boxing was written with the staging of the India Open for the first time ever. With 223 boxers from 22 different countries participating, the first edition of the India Open made history by offering $100,000 as prize money – the highest ever to be offered in the history of the sport. India fielded close to 80 boxers at the New Delhi event, making it a treat for the country’s boxing fans and finished with a staggering 40 medals out of which 8 were gold, led by boxing queen Mary Kom.
