Aiba World boxing championship at Ekaterinburg, Russia from 07th to 21st September, 2019
India’s men’s pugilists had a historic campaign after Amit Panghal (52kg) fetched the first-ever silver medal for India from this prestigious event while Manish Kaushik (63kg) claimed a bronze on debut.
It was a new high for the Asian Games and Asian Championships gold-medallist who had been consistently delivering majestic performances at every elite level competition for two years.
Before this edition, India had never won more than one bronze medal at a single edition of the World Championships. Not only was this the first time an Indian reached the final but it was also the first time ever India clinched multiple medals from a single edition, continuing the upward curve of Indian men’s boxing. It truly showed the depth of Indian men’s boxing which had been delivering consistent performances at the highest level for a couple of years.
