Country’s top sportsperson Mary Kom recently ended her campaign by winning her seventh Asian Championship medal at the 2021 edition of the ASBC Asian Boxing Championship. The event was co-hosted by the Boxing Federation of India (BFI) and UAE Boxing Federation in Dubai last month.

Since the lockdown was announced in 2020, it was the second international tournament held where the top Indian pugilist had participated. The ace Indian boxer had a face-off with Nazym Kazaibay from Kazakhstan in the finals. Both the boxers displayed some aggressive punches and intense moments in the course of the entire bout. With a verdict of 2-3, the Indian pugilist had to settled for a silver. Enroute to the finals, the southpaw had won against Lutsaikhan Altantsetseg of Mongolia in a split decision of 4-1.

She had won her first medal in the year 2003 edition of Asian Boxing Championships and since then she has 5 gold and 2 silver medals to her name. The London Olympic bronze medalist is now aiming for a gold at the Tokyo Olympics where she will be seen competing next.

India concluded their campaign by winning 15 medals including two golds marking as their best performance at the Asian Championships.
