Ambala girl Kalpana wins gold at Junior Asian Boxing Championships

Bringing laurels to the country and region, Kalpana, a Class IX student of Major RN Kapoor DAV Senior Secondary School, Ambala Cantonment has won the gold medal at Junior Asian Boxing Championships in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

AMBALA: Bringing laurels to the country and region, Kalpana, a Class IX student of Major RN Kapoor DAV Senior Secondary School, Ambala Cantonment has won the gold medal at Junior Asian Boxing Championships in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
On Tuesday, Kalpana's school organised an event to honour her for achieving the success and to motivate other students.
Her school principal RP Rathi congratulated and honoured Kalpana'a parents Kusum and Karamvir and also appreciated the efforts of the sports department of the school for nurturing the talent in Ambala young boxer.
Kalpana's coaches have also been honoured by the school management on Tuesday.
While talking to media in Ambala, Kalpana shared her experience of the championship and saying, "I represented India at the Junior Asian Championships in UAE. I won the gold medal and this is my first such success at the international level."
Further speaking about her bouts, Kalpana said, "In the first bout, I contested against China and won the fight with 4-1. My second bout was with Taipei which I won with a score of 5-0 and my final bout was with Thailand and won it with a score of 4-1."
When asked about her future plans, the Ambala young female boxer said, "My aim is to reach the senior level and to brighten the name of my coaches. I have trials in December for a tour to Serbia and now I will start preparing for the same. I will put in my full efforts to remain in the first position so that I can make it to Serbia as well. I am receiving full support from my school, coaches, and parents and they have given me support at every level."
The school management told that Kalpana has been coached by Sanjay Kumar and Poonam Sharma.
When asked to give a message to youth of her age group, Kalpana said, "In our region, most of us concentrate more on studies and we have no control over our diet and do not continue our practices with full dedication and strict discipline. So my message to the youths of my age group is that they should keep a balance in life on both the studies as well as the sports."
