Indian men’s and women’s teams gear up for Olympic qualifiers with high-level training in Italy
Ahead of the Olympic Qualifying Tournament – Asia & Oceania to be held in Amman, Jordan from March 3-11, Indian boxers are leaving no stone unturned as they chase highly-coveted Tokyo Olympic berths. The women boxers, led by six-time world champion Mary Kom, are currently putting in the hard yards at the Multi-Nations Camp being held at the National Boxing Centre in Assisi, Italy with the Amit Panghal-led men’s team slated to join them later this week.
With boxers coming from multiple countries at this camp, the Indian pugilists will be exposed to better sparring and more variety of fighters, something that will be invaluable for them as they gear up for the Olympic qualifiers. The stint will give the Indian boxers a priceless opportunity to train with international facilities of fitness and stamina that is sure to boost their confidence levels before they leave for Jordan to face some of the fiercest competition next month.
